Small children have firm preferences and Christmas is not usually top of the list. Putting something they already love on the same garment removes the argument, and the jumper goes on without negotiation — which is worth more on a busy morning than any amount of fabric quality.
At ten pounds it is a printed sweatshirt and will behave like one: soft, machine washable, and good for a season or two of prints before it starts to look tired. That is the correct lifespan for a garment a three-year-old will grow out of anyway.
Before the day
- Size up if they are between sizes; cheap toddler sizing runs optimistic
- Wash inside out on cool, air dry
- Buy it early — the middle toddler sizes sell out first every year
- Indoor layer; a proper coat still goes over it
A sensible second top so you are not washing the same thing three times in one week. For the same age group in cotton with raglan sleeves, the 2-10 cotton pullover is more comfortable for a full day.
