Description
Starting at age one, which most of this category does not.
The first Christmas where a child is upright and photographable is the one people care most about, and the clothing options are surprisingly thin. A soft sweatshirt at twelve pounds is a better answer than an itchy novelty knit that will be pulled at all afternoon.
Two things matter more than the design at this age. Babies and toddlers overheat quickly indoors, so a light layer beats a thick one in a heated house. And whatever they wear will be washed within the day, so it needs to survive a normal cycle without fuss.
Before the day
- Check the neck opening — anything tight over the head is a fight you will lose
- Size up if between sizes; sleeves can be rolled, a tight top cannot be fixed
- Watch for overheating indoors, especially over a vest
- Cool wash inside out, and expect to do it more than once
Twelve pounds is the right amount to spend on something worn for a fortnight and then outgrown. For the 2 to 7 bracket with a slightly bolder design, see the Santa and dinosaur pullover.
