Description
Knitted, not printed, and that is the distinction worth paying for.
A large majority of what gets sold as a Christmas jumper is a sweatshirt with a picture of a jumper on it. This is genuinely knitted, with the pattern worked into the fabric, which means it has texture, weight and the ribbed cuffs and hem that the printed ones can only imitate.
It is the difference between something that looks right in a photograph and something that looks right when someone is standing next to you.
Worth knowing
- Acrylic knit, as almost all of them are at this price. Warm, hard-wearing, and it can itch against bare skin — wear a t-shirt underneath.
- Warmer than a printed sweatshirt. Excellent outdoors, potentially too much in a packed room.
- Knitwear survives multiple seasons in a way printed polyester does not, which changes the value calculation.
If you want one Christmas jumper that comes out every December for years rather than one that does a single party, buy knit.
