Most sizing advice on this site is "go up one", because print-first brands cut small. Here the cut is already generous by design, so adding a size gets you something that hangs off the shoulders rather than something roomy. Take your usual size and check the chest measurement rather than assuming.
At forty pounds it is knitwear rather than a printed sweatshirt, which is the right way to spend that much. Knit keeps its design indefinitely, is genuinely warm, and does not have a graphic waiting to crack in the wash.

Sensible if you want one good jumper rather than a new cheap one each year. If forty pounds is more than the occasion deserves, a cheaper knit pullover does most of the same job.
