Description
Judge a toddler's Christmas jumper on whether they can nap in it.
That sounds flippant and is not. A child of two or three will spend part of Christmas Day asleep in a car seat or on somebody's sofa, and anything with a stiff collar, a thick knit or a scratchy seam will wake them up. A soft sweatshirt does not. That single property decides whether the day goes well.
It also washes without a second thought, which matters when the same top is needed for a nursery party on Tuesday and grandparents on Wednesday, with a full meal in between.
Before the day
- Check the neck opening. Tight head-holes cause more refusals at this age than any design ever has
- Size up if they are between sizes; rolled sleeves are fixable, tight shoulders are not
- Cool wash inside out, air dry
- Watch for overheating in a warm house — this is a layer over a vest, not a coat
