Sized 2 to 7, which is the age where getting a jumper on at all is the main challenge.
The raglan sleeve is worth noticing. Instead of a seam sitting on top of the shoulder, the sleeve runs diagonally to the neck, which gives a small child more room to lift their arms — and fewer complaints about a jumper feeling tight when they are climbing on something. It also means fewer seams rubbing, which is the usual reason a toddler decides they hate an item of clothing.
It is a sweatshirt rather than knitwear, which for this age group is the right choice every time. Knit is scratchy, needs careful washing and comes apart when it meets a nursery. Sweatshirt fleece goes in the machine with everything else.
Before the day
- Size up if they are between sizes. Toddler sizing is inconsistent between brands and a loose sweatshirt still looks fine
- Check the neck opening is generous — that is what decides whether it goes on without a fight
- Wash inside out on cool; the print ages before the fabric does
- A layer, not a coat — they will still need a proper one outside
Twenty pounds is at the upper end for a toddler top that gets three weeks of use, so buy it expecting a younger sibling to get it next.
