Description
A two-person joke, which means it only works if both people are in on it.
Couples' jumpers fail for social reasons far more often than practical ones. The design usually only makes sense when you are standing next to each other, so one of you separated at the other end of a party is wearing an incomplete sentence. And if one half is enthusiastic and the other is tolerating it, that reads clearly in every photograph taken that evening.
Assuming you have agreed, the format does something a single jumper cannot: it signals effort as a pair, which is why these dominate couples' categories at jumper competitions.
Before the day
- Agree it in advance. A matching jumper is a bad surprise gift
- Check both sizes are in stock before ordering either
- Printed sweatshirt: cool wash inside out, no drier
- Plan to stand together for photographs, or the joke does not exist
If you want a version where the two halves physically connect rather than merely match, the two-person Grajtcin sweater takes it further. Our piece on matching jumpers at the office party covers how this goes wrong.
