The reason toddler Christmas jumpers get abandoned by lunchtime is almost always texture. A knitted jumper is scratchy at the neck and cuffs, and a three-year-old has no interest in your plans for a photograph. Brushed sweatshirt fabric is soft enough that they forget they are wearing it, which is the entire success criterion at that age.
The second criterion is washing. Whatever a toddler wears in December will meet gravy, felt tip and something sticky of unknown origin. This goes through a normal cycle with everything else, which a knit does not.
Before the day
- Size up if they are between sizes — toddler sizing varies wildly between brands and slightly big is always the safer error
- Check the neck opening; a tight head-hole is the usual cause of a refusal
- Wash inside out on cool — the print ages long before the fabric does
- It is a layer, not outerwear; a coat still goes over it
Fifteen pounds for a garment with roughly three weeks of use is fair if a younger sibling inherits it. If you want something cheaper for the same age range, the DDSOL toddler long-sleeve top is lighter and about a third less.
