All-over prints win jumper competitions for adults for one simple reason, and it applies to children too: coverage reads as effort from across a room. A chest graphic disappears in a class photograph. A full print does not, which is why this is the one that gets picked out at a school jumper day.
Twenty-six pounds is a lot for a child's sweatshirt, though, and worth being clear-eyed about. You are paying for the print process, not for better fabric or a longer life. A child who grows two sizes by next December will have worn it for perhaps three weeks.
Worth knowing
- Unisex boys and girls sizing — go up if they are between sizes, as these print-first brands tend to cut close
- Polyester takes a 3D print, which means it is light: fine indoors, needs a coat outside
- Cool wash inside out; do not tumble dry, or the print goes dull in one go
- If your child dislikes the slightly slippery feel of print fabric, a fleece sweatshirt will be worn more happily
Buy it if there is a contest to win. For everyday December wear, a cheaper fleece sweatshirt does the same job for less than half the money.
