Description
This is proper Fair Isle-style knitwear, not a novelty jumper, and the difference matters.
There is no joke, no slogan and no Santa. What there is instead is the pattern that Christmas jumpers were parodying in the first place, worn straight. In a room full of light-up reindeer you will look like you have opted out, and in most other rooms you will simply look well dressed for winter.
Raglan sleeves and a lightweight knit make it more wearable than traditional Fair Isle usually is — the classic version is thick enough to be unbearable indoors, and this is not. That widens it from a December garment to something you wear until March.
Choose this if
- You want festive-adjacent rather than festive — family lunch, a meal out, work
- You are buying knitwear for the winter and would like it to nod at Christmas
- You have been burned by a scratchy traditional knit before
Cool wash, dry flat. If you actually need a jumper for a jumper day, this is not it — the oversized Christmas pullovers are closer to the brief.
