Knit is what people picture when they imagine a child in a Christmas jumper: texture, depth, and something that looks like a garment rather than a printed t-shirt with long sleeves. It is also the fabric small children most often reject, because acrylic knit is scratchy at the neck and a four-year-old will not be talked round.
The fix is a soft long-sleeved top underneath. It removes all contact with the skin and turns a jumper that lasts ten minutes into one that lasts the day — which also makes it warm, so watch the temperature in a heated classroom.
Before the day
- Layer something soft underneath. This is the single thing that decides whether it gets worn
- Cool wash and dry flat; a child's knit hung wet will grow a size overnight
- Expect pilling where a coat or a bag rubs — normal for acrylic, not a fault
- Buy with a younger sibling in mind; knit survives storage in a way printed fleece does not
At twenty-six pounds this only makes sense across more than one Christmas or more than one child. For a single school event, the Quad Seven fleece pullover costs a third as much and will not be argued about.
